Using the VR headset

This guide provides step-by-step instructions for setting up and using your Meta Quest headset to run Pixaera VR training.

Getting started with the headset

Before you can run any VR training, your Meta Quest headset must be properly set up.

Initial setup:

  1. Power on your headset and follow the on-screen instructions to pair it with your Meta account.
  2. Connect the headset to a stable Wi-Fi network.
  3. Update the firmware if prompted.
  4. Download the Meta Horizon app on your mobile device for easier management and casting.
  5. Go to this page and sign in to your Meta account to get access to the Pixaera app on your headset: https://www.oculus.com/experiences/4440928196012652/release-channels/248571147465519/?token=X5e2Ca7f
  6. Wait a few minutes and you should see the app available for installation in your App Library on the headset.

Setting up headsets in a facility

If you’re deploying multiple headsets in a training center or field site, follow these tips for smooth operation and management:

Physical organization:

  • Label each headset and its controllers with matching dot or color-coded stickers.
  • Assign each labeled set to a specific training area.
  • Use multi-sticker combinations for large-scale deployments.

Tracking optimization:

  • Use high-contrast decals or black tape to mark out 2m x 2m squares on the floor.
  • Add a cross or “X” inside each square to improve visual tracking.
  • Maintain at least 1m between squares for supervisor movement.
  • Avoid direct light exposure to headsets; use IR illuminators in low-light rooms if needed.

Safety and cleanliness:

  • Place a marker for learners to face away from foot traffic.
  • Wipe down headsets and straps between uses.
  • Fully switch off headsets (don’t just put them in sleep mode) when not in use to conserve battery.

Charging and maintenance

  • Charge all headsets overnight using USB-C cables or charging stations.
  • Keep a few power banks handy for mobile or off-grid setups.
  • Regularly check for firmware updates to maintain performance and security.

Ready to launch training

Once your headset is charged, labeled, and connected to Wi-Fi:

  1. Launch the Pixaera app.
  2. Log in using your 6-digit pin generated from vr.pixaera.com.
  3. Select your training module.
  4. Begin your immersive training session.
